I'm a Belieber

I used to mock all victims of Bieber Fever. I even used make fun of his hair, but I didn't know any better then. I had a change of opinion when I saw the movie Never Say Never, a true masterpiece. I went in thinking it would be a fun movie and I might even get a few laughs out of it. I tend to go into movies with low expectations, that way I never feel as though  I've wasted my time. But this was no waste. First of all, he can actually sing. Not like all those people whose voices are all auto tuned. His singing is all him. The way he became famous was pretty cool too, he wasn't just a rich little brat who wanted an album. He actually had to work a lot to get his music out there.
He honestly seemed like a real person in the movie, and he was pretty cool and funny. I think one of his concerts would be really cool to go to. Especially if I was chosen as the "one less lonely girl" for the song. Holy shit that would be crazy. Besides a charming personality and dynamite hair, his songs are pretty good too. I must say his first hit "One Time" may be my fave, though "Never Say Never might have trumped it. I think people when they learn that a sixteen year old boy wrote a song, people try to pretend like they don't like it or it's "stupid". Yeah, okay, whatever you say guy-who-has-"Baby"-on-his-ipod. People just hate on him because he's rich, talented, and girls love him. YEAH THAT'S RIGHT NICK CHO.

I happened to have a dream last night involving Justin Bieber. In my dream, I went to one of his concerts in this small, flowery-patterned (I don't really know why) arena and it was packed. I don't remember much from this concert, but apparently we went the next day again and there weren't very many people, so me and my cousin got to go on stage. It was super great, but the best part was I  got to hang out with him after the concert (I distinctly remember a part walking in the grass across from near a Steak N' Shake and hoping we wouldn't go in since I had recently sworn off Steak N' Shake food due to its high calorie count), and I invited, and slightly begged,  him to come over for dinner and he, amazingly, agreed. So we went to my house, and I swear during all of this I was convinced it wasn't a dream, so I went upstairs to get my camera to get pictures with him. Then I woke up. I was quite upset. Not only did I not get to eat dinner with him, but I also didn't get pictures with him.

I mean, honestly, just look at what I missed out on.

  1. Haha, nice post. You actually made me curious about Justin Bieber. The only song I'm familiar with is "Baby," which I didn't really like. He's talented, I just don't know if his songs fit my taste. Maybe I'll try listening to some of his other songs.

  2. Oh my, you have quite the Beiber Fever! I like how you honestly chronicled your relationship with him, from hating him to eventually dreaming about him; that's quite dramatic and it lend an air of veracity to the post (I mean, I have seen your Beiber folder after all...).

On the hand, your description of your dream had me captivated. It was so vivid and (sorry) sometimes disturbing. I am sorry that you missed out on dinner and photos with him though.

Lastly, I do recommend Rebecca Black as alternative source of interest. But other than that, great post!

  3. Hm. I'm something of a Justin Bieber skeptic. Someone from the Wall Street Journal reviewed the movie, though, and they said it was decent, albeit a little long. And we all know that the WSJ is the definitive source on _everything_, especially Karl Rove and Paul Ryan.

So what I'm saying is that -- though I haven't seen the movie -- why it may have caused your change of heart. Audiovisual technology is compelling that way. Horatio Alger luck-and-pluck stories are also compelling, and with good reason.

  4. I really appreciate your being so forthright about how your views of young Mr. Beiber have changed. Personally, I think you should never be embarrassed to admit you love a musician or a movie, especially if it has some real artistic merit. I've actually never heard a Justin Beiber song, so I can't comment on that, but my dad saw the movie and he said it was a pretty impressive story.

I am totally confused about what the "one less lonely girl" is. Can you clarify?

  5. Why certainly. One Less Lonely Girl is a song by Justin Bieber, and when he performs the song in concert, his people(manager, etc.) randomly choose a girl from the crowd to come onstage and JBiebz gives her flowers and sings the song to her. The girl usually ends up crying.

Interesting opinions :P. Good post, but I can't say I agree with you.

  7. ^ I CAN'T BELIEVE EDWARD DOESN'T AGREE. He obviously never saw the movie.

I identify with this post very much because I went through much of the same journey! (Right down to digging 3D glasses out of the recycle bin with you...) I used to complain about Bieber fans and say that they had no taste, when really, he's quite a remarkable person! His music is very comforting and it makes you feel special, and anyone who can do that is worth respecting!

Great post, keep up the good work!

  8. All right, it's official. You have Bieber Fever. Personally, I don't really like Bieber's music. Despite that, I do think he is talented. The thing that ruins his music for is just the fact that it's too pop-ish and synthesized. If he was rolling with a real band (with REAL instruments), I would probably like him a lot more. In fact, if he were rolling with a real band, he would probably be a sex symbol right now.
